Mothers' Day/Fathers' Day

Mothers' Day/Fathers' Day

Written By Giles Fernando

Directed by Penny Gkritzapi

A form-twisting double bill about achieving your dreams, family competition, and the near-universal feeling of being a disappointment to your parents …

MOTHERS' DAY

Starring Sarah Wanendeya as Pauline

Pauline’s back. You can’t keep a good woman down. Or Man … when Pauline’s around. This time she’s on a double bill.

Come join her on Mothers’ Day as she takes you on the emotional rollercoaster that has been her life as an additional actress (she’s not an extra), showing how, after her unexpected blessing, Samantha, she battled her jealous mother, her unhelpful husband and film sets without creches to succeed as a working mother in film and TV, eventually landing her dream role in Eastenders. Or did she? Should her daughter Samantha have followed in her footsteps? And who would have made a better Florence in Angel of Crimea, Pauline or Samantha?

Mothers’ Day is based on The DVD of Me written by Giles Fernando and Davina Leonard

FATHERS' DAY

Starring El Anthony as Joe

Joe, prevented from seeing his son, Davey, on Fathers’ Day steals a plane on a mission to see him, dodging a chasing RAF plane, surviving a stall over London, and, when faced with an impossible landing in the North Sea, perfects a loop-the-loop – a world first in a commercial jet (inspired by the true story of the 2018 Horizon Air incident in Seattle).

But will he do his son proud, and finally get to see him?

Mothers’ Day/Fathers’ Day will alternate between Act 1 and Act 2 during the run.

Produced by Paradigm Productions, in co-production with the Drayton Arms Theatre
