Flushed

Flushed

Two women, one diagnosis and approximately 7 different bathrooms: 'Flushed' follows a changing time in the lives of inseparable sisters, Jen and Marnie. When Marnie is diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency, her life is altered and the relationship between the two girls is tested. 'Flushed' is a play about the everlasting bond that is made within the cubicle walls; where friendships are formed, secrets are shared, and girls poo.

After award-winning, 5-star, sell-out runs at both the Edinburgh Fringe 2018 and Manchester's 53Two Theatre - Theatre Unlocked are excited to announce that 'Flushed' will be coming to London! It will run for two nights only, on the 4th & 5th November, at the Drayton Arms Theatre in Kensington.

Flushed was first performed at Manchester's 53two Theatre, for which the production was granted the 53two FOUNDation award: a scheme set up to help support emerging Manchester based creatives. The production then transferred to Underbelly for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Both runs of the show were performed to sell out crowds and numerous 5-star reviews, with Voice Magazine awarding the production one of their 'Pick of the Fringe' accolades; Voice stated that "The script is an incredibly rare masterpiece” and ”It’s shows like this that make Fringe worth it”.

The play deals with the issues surrounding Premature Ovarian Insufficiency, a condition that affects 5% of women and that surprisingly few people are aware of. When POI occurs, women as young as 11 are forced to go through Menopause, as their ovaries stop producing eggs drastically earlier than they are supposed to, causing a host of physical and emotional difficulties. Surprisingly there is only one charity in the UK dealing with this condition: The Daisy Network. Theatre Unlocked have been working with Daisy, throughout the development process of 'Flushed', and have even performed at their annual medical conference 'Daisy Day'. We will be raising funds and awareness for this charity throughout the run of 'Flushed'.
