
Course: Deaf Awarness
COURSE DESCRIPTION
An introduction to deaf-ness and the deaf community.
Ideal for creatives and producers who would like to be more inclusive in their practice.
This course will cover deaf culture, history, stigma and myths, working with and communicating with Deaf creatives and audiences, and using hearing assisted technology
This course will also include an introduction to British Sign Language, fingerspelling and BSL grammar, basic signs and basic signs specifically for theatre.
COURSE DETAILS
This course will run from 10am-4pm with a break for lunch and Q&A at the end.
YOUR COURSE LEADER
Rebecca Lyon works as a theatre technician and designs and develops courses in health and safety for an online training company. Since losing her hearing in her 20s, she has been involved with the deaf community and gained several qualifications in British Sign Language. She has developed this deaf awareness course based on the challenges she has faced and research conducted by deaf charities and organisations.
