Borscht. Ukrainian Soup: A Taste of Home
The performance is based on the play by Maryna Smilianets, originally titled “Borscht. My Great-Grandmas’ Recipes For Survival”. It is a moving play based on real stories of people who faced the war in Ukraine. It tells not only about the war but also about how the traditional Ukrainian dish - borscht, which carries the strength of the land, the spirit of family and home - can become a pillar in the most difficult times, when everything you've built your whole life suddenly collapses.
This play is not only about Ukrainians, but about the whole world. Every nation, culture, and family has its own special dish that brings people together around one table. Borscht becomes a universal symbol, a recipe for life, which, like in our play, can change and even save lives in the most challenging times.
And what is your Borscht that keeps you warm and brings you home?
