We at Bric à Brac are thrilled to announce we will be bringing our debut ★★★★ show 'Ash' BACK to London for one night only before it sets off on a Spring 2019 tour!

Based on a true story, 'Ash' explores the life of George Crozier and his journey from his first to his last cigarette. Set against a backdrop of the tobacco industry’s ever-changing advertisements, this “witty and inventive” show (★★★★ The Stage) uses object manipulation, movement and live music to explore the highs and lows of a life-long love affair with smoking.

Up until the last puff, it’s an addictive story of a Yorkshire community that aren’t planning to quit anytime soon.

Director: Anna Marshall

Devised by the Company: Bric à Brac

About the Company: Bric à Brac Theatre

Bric à Brac are an international theatre company who tell true stories in unexpected ways. With a core ensemble of theatre-makers from across the UK, America, and Norway, we graduated from the Jacques Lecoq theatre school in 2015.

Having bonded over our shared language in physicality and clowning around, we created Bric à Brac with the mission of producing bold, collaborative performance that is visually playful and that challenges and subverts our Lecoq-based background.

We take real stories, those which touch us most, and explore telling them in striking, eclectic ways.

Our work has been supported by The Space, ArtHouse Jersey and most recently we have been selected as one of the New Diorama's Emerging Graduate companies 2018/2019.

Company Reviews

★★★★★ Fringe Guru

"Ash remains commendably focussed on a specific family, in a specific place at a specific time.  But the story is also a universal one; there can't be many in the audience who aren't in some way entangled in its theme.  So despite the levity, despite the humour, despite the dance, this is a troubling and deeply moving play."

★★★★ A Younger Theatre
“Ash really is a powerful, highly enjoyable piece that displays some serious talent from a new and exciting company”.

★★★★ The Stage
“Inventive staging treats a serious subject lightly without trivialising it.”

★★★★ The List
“It might not seem right to have an hilarious show focused on the habit of smoking, but Bric à Brac theatre company have pulled it off in this startling show.”

★★★★ Broadway Baby
“A powerful tragic play (that is) charming, endearing and funny.”
